Comedian Steve Harvey is a force to be reckoned with. From hosting game shows “Celebrity Family Feud” and “Big Shots” or talking to celebrity guests on his own eponymous talk show and radio show, the media mogul is everywhere.
And, now, according to the Hollywood Reporter, Harvey has his sights set on dominating the organic food industry.
When asked about his five-year plan, Harvey told the publication, “I’m going to own a huge organic food business. I’m going to help people reshape the way they eat.”
He explained, “A doctor told me, ‘Steve, what you eat in your 40s we will diagnose in your 50s. What we diagnose in your 50s, we will treat you for in your 60s. Whatever we’re treating you for in your 60s, we will bury you for in your 70s.’ It changed the way I ate.”
Harvey touches on an issue that’s been well studied: we are what we eat.
Fruits, vegetables and grains that are labeled organic are grown without the use of most synthetic pesticides or artificial fertilizers.
Countless studies have shown that the pesticides used on food have been linked to cancer, Alzheimer’s Disease, ADHD, and even birth defects. In fact recent studies have shown that pesticides used on agriculture are even more harmful than previously feared.
“We cannot truly test the impact of any pesticides over a long term at very low concentrations,” said one study’s author. “We’re really experimenting on ourselves over the last 15 years or so with these pesticides.”
It’s not surprising, then, that, according to a new study, it appears the organic food movement may be having a positive influence on conventional agriculture, including reducing the necessity of pesticides, artificial fertilizers, and excessive tilling.
Which might explain why the organic food and beverages market is expected to grow at a rate of 14 percent from 2017 until 2021.
No wonder Harvey wants to get on the organic food bandwagon.
As for his business plans, the talk show host said he wants to sell his products both online and in stores. In fact, Harvey is so passionate about organic clean living that he said he would even sell his bacon business, Harvey Foods’ Easy Bacon.
“I’m gonna really go wholeheartedly at it,” he said. “I’m going to rival the success of Paul Newman.”
